SUMMARY:MentorLIVE: Space Weather Effects on Aviation
DESCRIPTION:Space Weather Effects on Aviation\n\nPresenter: Trey Cade\, PhD\nHost: Bob Meder\n\n \nDescription\nSpace Weather can have numerous effects on safe aircraft operation\, aircrews\, and the National Airspace System. As the Next Generation Air Traffic Control System shifts to a reliance on more space-based systems\, these effects could become more pronounced. Examples of past Space Weather impacts and the potential for impacts in the context of an extreme event will be discussed. \n \nPresenter Bio\nTrey Cade served in the Air Force for 22 years\, working primarily as a space weather scientist\, before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel and coming to Baylor University. He is currently the Director of the Baylor Institute for Aviation Sciences\, where he has managed the Aviation Sciences Program since 2011. \nIn addition to teaching courses in leadership\, meteorology\, and space weather\, he conducts research in Baylor’s Space Weather Research Laboratory. He has previously served as the Chief of the Applied Technology Division for the Air Force Weather Agency\, Space Weather Operations Officer for Air Force Space Command\, and an Atmospheric and Space Environmental Forecaster for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). \n\n \n \nHost Bio\nRobert “Bob” Meder earned his CFI in 2006 and has since added single-engine and multi-engine instrument certificates. Recently retired from a 40+ year railroad career\, he worked with the FAA on drone regulations while continuing to instruct. With 6\,000+ hours of dual instruction\, Bob specializes in training new flight instructors\, emphasizing risk management and critical thinking. \nA FAASTeam Lead Rep\, he was named District and Regional Flight Instructor of the Year in 2009 and 2010. After nearly a decade as NAFI Chair\, Bob now serves as Chair Emeritus. \n\n \nRegister For Event
