Description

Being a flight instructor can be demanding, exhilarating, frustrating, fulfilling, and so much more.  Often, it’s all of these at the same time.

Join presenter Bob Meder with host Aaron Dabney for a discussion that goes beyond just the regulatory requirements to become a CFI.  In this episode of MentorLive, you will learn that becoming a CFI  will benefit you by not only by becoming a truly better pilot, but also by learning crew resource management and the rewards of passing on the gift of flight.

Presenter Bio

Robert “Bob” Meder earned his CFI in 2006 and has since added single-engine and multi-engine instrument certificates. Recently retired from a 40+ year railroad career, he worked with the FAA on drone regulations while continuing to instruct. With 6,000+ hours of dual instruction, Bob specializes in training new flight instructors, emphasizing risk management and critical thinking.

A FAASTeam Lead Rep, he was named District and Regional Flight Instructor of the Year in 2009 and 2010. After nearly a decade as NAFI Chair, Bob now serves as Chair Emeritus.

Presenter Bio

Aaron Dabney is a lecturer and Chief of Flight Safety at the Baylor University Institute for Aviation Sciences.  Outside of his university position, he is active as an independent consultant and educator serving flight instructors and as the owner of a small flight school.  An active flight instructor since 2009, he has provided more than 5,000 hours of instruction in more than 30 aircraft types.

Aaron’s first airplane ride was in the family Piper Cub at 3 months old; he eventually completed his first solo in that same airplane, and he and his wife Alisa are now the third generation of his family to serve as its caretakers.

Aaron is a 7-time NAFI Master Flight Instructor and has served on the Board of Directors since 2022.  He also coordinates the MentorLIVE program.
