About NAFI

NAFI was founded in 1967 and is the largest member association dedicated exclusively to flight instruction. Our vision is “Safer pilots through excellence in flight instruction.” Our mission is to promote flight instructor excellence through education, mentorship and advocacy.


Role and Responsibilities:

As an Advisory Board Member of NAFI, you will be critical in helping support the organization’s strategic direction and ensuring its growth and success. This role is integral to the vitality and service NAFI provides to the aviation community and to our members, sponsors and supporters. You will be expected to participate in: 

  • Strategic Leadership: Contribute to the execution of NAFI’s strategic plan, providing insights and guidance to achieve our mission and vision. 
  • Partnership Development: Leverage your network and assist in building partnerships with industry contacts and stakeholders. 
  • Compliance and Ethics: Uphold the highest ethical standards for this non-profit organization and NAFI bylaws.

Our Current Needs:

NAFI is currently seeking Board Advisors in the following concentrated areas:

  • Legal and Advocacy – Experience in and with aviation law, FAA rule making, and advocacy for aviation and flight instruction.
  • Fund Raising – Demonstrated record and performance for non-profit fund-raising campaigns, building and growth of donor programs and securing aviation industry financial support via multiple revenue streams
  • Volunteer Support – A passion for and experience in building teams with fellow volunteers for NAFI programs and events with demonstrated leadership skills, planning acumen and ability to lead NAFI’s volunteer efforts and programs.
  • Web Development – Experience in and with maintaining, updating and creating Web pages including interactive User interface for data lookup, calculations, use of Google API tools and display results.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Industry Knowledge – A broad understanding of the aviation industry, flight instruction ecosystem and aviation safety trends. 
  • Network – A well-established network of industry contacts, potential supporters, relevant partners, and the willingness and ability to employ these connections to enhance connections and engagement with NAFI. 
  • Passion and Alignment – A genuine commitment to NAFI’s mission, vision, and values, and a desire to contribute to developing content, ideas and concepts to improve flight instruction and make aviation safer. 
  • Personal Characteristics – The ability to consider and appreciate diverse people and perspectives and be open-minded, curious, and courageous. Possess excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to ask great questions.

Reporting, Meeting and Time Commitments:

  • Attend formal (virtual) Board Meeting twice a year to gain insights into NAFI activities and areas of assistance needed.
  • Be available on a reasonable basis for Board or other ad-hoc meetings and communications as needed.
  • Advisors will keep in regular contact with Chair and President for relationship management and questions/concerns.

Term and Compensation: 

  • Term – The term of service is open and would commence on the effective date of the Advisor Agreement and will expire with a mutually agreed date. 
  • Compensation – None to be provided, offered or inferred.
